Miami south beach hotel?
Thinking of visiting in February/March. Looking for a nice hotel (midrange in price, not looking for a Ritz Carlton) near gay friendly areas. Anyone been recently and have any suggestions? Nice pools and views would be nice. Romantic dinner suggestions also welcomed.

I stayed at the Clay Hotel a couple of years ago. The room itself was okay, not bad.no complaints, but have stayed in better. The hotel itself was very nice. Location was very, very nice. It steps out onto Espanola way, which is lined with nice restaurants and bars. Fun, but not crazy. A couple of blocks from the beach. I think I paid somewhere between $200-$300 a night.

Avoid Miami Beach during Spring Break. They had a curfew last year because the situation spiraled out of control.

I’m here right now but am staying on mid-beach. There are a lot of nice hotels up this way although they can get pricey. In South Beach, there’s a new Hyatt Centric which is nice. There’s Axl which is a gay Spanish hotel.

Any recommendations in the south beach area?

OP South Beach seems crazy lately, I wouldn’t stay there. Only visit during the daytime. The days of leisurely breakfasts by the pool of a pastel Art Deco hotel are gone. Midbeach or Brickell is the way to go.
BTW as far as “gay friendly” all of Miami Beach is gay friendly but there are no more gay areas anymore, that decamped to Fort Lauderdale over a decade ago.

Jeez the hotel prices during the season have become astronomical. $700/night for a standard room at the W.

I was in Hotel Victor South Beach. Ocean Drive. Great location, next to the beach but also has a pool, which I didn’t use. But the noise from the road is really disturbing. The room had good view to the ocean but the noise continued till 4 am. I had headphones and earplugs to keep the noise away and with them I was able to sleep well. I guess it is the same in all hotels next to the road. Hopefully other hotels have better sound insulation. Other than that very good hotel for the price range.

Very interesting comments about the noise near south beach. Might be more romantic to stay in the Midbeach area? Although I don’t really know that area. Wanted to enjoy some of the south beach gay bars, but maybe could do that and then go back to Midbeach to actually sleep soundly?

“Wanted to enjoy some of the south beach gay bars”
There are like two left.

Hotel Gaythering looks like a cool concept, but OP seems to be looking for a place on the water with big fancy pools.

Midbeach is primarily known for the Fountainebleau and resorts built on that model. The hotels tend to be larger highrises with beach access. It’s definitely much more quiet and romantic because there are little to no street level attractions.

We stayed at The Whitelaw twenty years ago and liked it.

OP definitely reschedule, as someone stated you will be knee deep in spring breakers, unless you are on the hunt for urban youths lol
Fort Lauderdale is where the old gays are

I like the Standard. Great pool.

The Hotel of South Beach between Collins and Ocean Ave. Rooftop pool and not on the beach but 1 block away in the middle of everything. Small rooms but it's less than half the price as the nearby Loews, National and Ritz Carlton.

What are the best kept secret hotels?

The ones on Key Biscayne.

If you want less pricey rentals, try a little further north in the Cuban area. You can rent nice apartments a block from the beach if you don't mind walking a mile to South Beach.

R7 where in mid-beach are you staying?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 30, 2021 5:57 PM |
The Confidante at 41st. I used points and have status for free breakfast and no resort fees. Without that I’m not sure I would stay there at the current rates. That said and as was pointed out, all the hotels in Miami Beach are insanely expensive this year.
